What to study
Pentiment has no dialogue box at the bottom of the screen, no portrait rail and no text log: speech is a piece of parchment pinned into the scene itself. The bubble is drawn as a small scroll, cream with a dark ink outline, a curled end at its top-left corner and a long ribbon tail that sweeps down and points at the speaker's head, and it carries its speaker's name on a separate grey plaque, 'Florian', clipped over the bubble's top edge like a label on a specimen. The lettering inside is a tidy book hand, the kind of script the game's artist protagonist would write, and it stays fully legible against the flat peach wall because everything around it is untextured colour. Nothing else in the frame is interface: no prompt, no cursor, no continue arrow, just a bone saw on the wall, a cabinet, and the corpse the line is about, a body being examined, which makes the clinical wording ('inspecting his anterior') land as procedure rather than drama. Frame at about 0:35 in the Pentiment Launch Trailer (Steam), pipeline candidate candidates/v0_0018.png at 34.7s. The trailer holds the same bubble in a wider shot of the room a second later (candidates/v0_0019.png at 36.0s, held as an alternate); this closer framing is kept because the plaque, the scroll curl and the tail are all legible at once, which is the whole design in one image: attribution, medium and speaker are three small drawing decisions, and the game never needs a name-and-text panel. No trailer burn-in, watermark or caption appears in this frame.

Screen inventory
- the grey speaker plaque reading 'Florian' sitting on top of the speech bubble's upper edge
- the parchment speech bubble itself: cream, dark-outlined, with a curled scroll end at its upper left and a long ribbon tail sweeping down to the speaker's head
- the bubble text in a neat inked book hand, two lines: 'I will begin by inspecting his anterior, starting with the face and head.'
- the speaker, a one-eyed bearded man in a grey cloak, leaning over a naked corpse laid out on a wooden table, one hand at the body's wrist
- a bone saw hanging on the wall at upper left and a lidded wooden cabinet at left, the examination room's only dressing
- no HUD, health bar, prompt or cursor anywhere: the bubble and its name plaque are the entire interface in the frame
