What to study

On foot, Outer Wilds shrinks its interface to what keeps the astronaut alive and arranges it as one instrument: a single circular gauge wrapped around a white silhouette of the explorer, the cyan 'O₂' arc on one side and the yellow 'FUEL' arc, reading '100.0 %', on the other, so life support is read as two halves of one dial rather than two bars in two corners. Navigation gets the same treatment below it: a wireframe globe carrying a dotted teal orbit path instead of a minimap, a 'GRAVITY' readout stating '0.0x', and a clock-like dial, because in a 22-minute time loop orientation and elapsed time are survival information too. There is no health bar, no inventory and no quest text, a single centre dot is the whole reticle. Frame at about 0:05 in the Outer Wilds | Accolades Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 4.5s: the scene-change pass emitted no frame for this beat. Note: the trailer's ESRB ratings bug is burned into the frame's bottom-left corner and clips the edge of the ship-distance readout; the HUD elements themselves are unobscured.

Screen inventory

  • a circular gauge at the top-left wrapped around a white astronaut silhouette: a cyan arc on the left labelled 'O₂' with a numeric scale, and a yellow arc on the right labelled 'FUEL' with a '100.0 %' readout and pointer
  • a wireframe globe below the gauge, a dotted teal orbit path curving over it with a small yellow position marker
  • the text 'GRAVITY' over a '0.0x' readout beneath the globe
  • a clock-like circular dial with tick marks and hands below the gravity readout
  • a ship-distance readout at the far left edge, partially clipped, ending in '29.4km'
  • a single small centre dot as the only reticle, over the black circular portal ahead and the astronaut's own boot and gloved hands at the frame edges

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-20. verified 2026-10-20: frame manually extracted at 4.5s from the pipeline-downloaded Outer Wilds | Accolades Trailer (Steam) and inspected visually at full resolution (0.5s probes across 0.5-5.0s confirm the HUD is settled throughout the beat); genuine spacesuit HUD confirmed (O₂/FUEL gauge, '100.0 %', 'GRAVITY 0.0x', wireframe globe and dial all legible); DISCLOSED ARTIFACT: the trailer's 'EVERYONE 10+' ESRB bug is burned into the bottom-left corner for this whole opening beat and clips the left edge of the '29.4km' readout, it does not cover any HUD element
