What to study

Inscryption's campaign map is not a screen the game shows you; it is a thing on the table in front of you. The route is a carved wooden forest - hundreds of identical cone trees parted by dashed trails - and each stop is an inked glyph stamped into a clearing: a skull, a bear trap, a question mark over a card. Your progress is a little costumed figurine standing on the current node, and the destination is a cabin that literally glows. There is no legend, no '3 moves remaining', no minimap, because the diorama needs none: branching is something you can see, traced in dashes through the trees. The tell is at the right edge of the frame, where a Squirrel card from the card game lies on the same wooden table - the map, the battles and the room around them are all one continuous physical place, and the interface never leaves it. Frame at about 0:22 in the Inscryption - Trailer (Steam), a scene-change survivor (v0_0001).

Screen inventory

  • a tabletop forest diorama of carved wooden cone trees, shot from above at a tilt, filling the whole frame - the map is a physical object on the cabin table
  • dashed black trails linking inked node glyphs stamped on the clearings: a card icon with '?' at the bottom edge, a bear-trap ring at centre, a skull at left, a '?' node mid-right
  • the player's piece: a small costumed figurine in a hat standing on a node mid-right, beside a gear-like boss glyph
  • a second figurine at top centre-left beside a wooden watchtower structure; a glowing cabin structure at bottom right marks the route's end
  • the edge of a SQUIRREL card (0/1) lying on the real table at the right edge of the frame - map and card game share one tabletop
  • no screen-space HUD at all: no legend, no move counter, no buttons - position on the diorama is the entire state display
