What to study

Deck improvement in Inscryption is not a menu where you spend points; it is a ceremony you walk a card to. At the mysterious stones, one card stands upright against a boulder - the Grizzly, 4/4, its three-blood cost printed as red drops along its top edge - and the card to be consumed lies flat on the slab before it: a Sparrow, 1/2, the little wing sigil beside its numbers the thing about to be cut out of it and sewn into the Grizzly. Nothing about the transaction is abstracted: the donor is present, the recipient is present, and the confirmation is not an OK button but a small stone in the foreground glowing with a teal dagger. Even the framing does interface work - the two cards are arranged like figures at an altar, so the player reads 'one of these is about to die for the other' from the composition before any text explains it. Frame at about 0:28 in the Inscryption - Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 27.5s: the scene-change pass caught this sequence only as a darker neighbouring frame.

Screen inventory

  • a GRIZZLY card standing upright against a boulder at the back of the altar: 4 power / 4 health, three red blood drops along its top edge marking its cost
  • a SPARROW card lying flat on the flat-topped stone slab in front of it: 1 power / 2 health, its winged Airborne sigil printed beside the numerals
  • a ring of rough standing stones on the wooden table - the upgrade screen is a stone circle, not a panel
  • in the foreground, a small stone bearing a single glowing teal dagger glyph: the confirm prompt, drawn as a ritual object rather than a button
  • the cards carry their full stat layout into the ceremony - name, portrait, power, health, cost drops and sigil all readable at altar distance
  • a small mouse cursor at the right edge is the only screen-space element in the frame
