What to study
Chrono Trigger puts the speaker's name inside the line itself, not in a portrait or nameplate: 'Strange Construct: Scared you, didn't I?' sits in a single full-width box across the top of the frame, while the game world stays fully visible underneath. The box is a flat textured grey-blue with a thin bevel, no portrait, no choices, no advance prompt, so the whole dialogue contract is one line of text over the scene it refers to. That restraint is the design lesson: the game trusts the sprite staging (four party members facing the machine) to carry who is talking, and spends its UI budget on legibility alone. Frame at about 1:05 in the ESRB EN Launch Trailer (Steam). No trailer caption is overlaid on this frame; the black side pillars are the trailer's presentation of the footage.
