What to study

Alien: Isolation's signature interface, in the exact framing a player lives with: the motion tracker is not a HUD widget but a physical object raised into the bottom of the view, and its little green CRT is the only screen the game needs. The display itself is pure 1979: a neon-green wedge sector with dashed range arcs and radial spokes, three mode labels stacked at the right of the glass (ATT / SUS / DEC), segmented blocks numbered 1 and 2 at the left, red LED ticks down both bezel edges and a maker's stencil, 'PROPERTY OF ARIOUS - MADE IN THE U.S.A', along the bottom of the housing. Crucially, this sweep is empty. There is no contact dot, and the frame teaches the system's central tension at a glance: the tracker only reports motion inside its forward wedge, so an empty wedge is never proof of safety, only of nothing moving in front of you right now. Everything else a survival game would pin to the screen corners is simply absent, no crosshair furniture, no health bar, no objective marker, the world beyond the device (here, an open floor vent with stowed kit bags below) is read with the eyes. Source honesty: this is a manual extraction from pre-release footage, the E3 trailer opens with its own 'pre-release footage, work in progress' card and is letterboxed, so small details may differ from the shipped build, but the tracker design, framing and readouts are the game's own. Frame at about 1:03 in the AI E3 Trailer video (Steam), a manual extraction (probes/v1-probe-62.5.png at 62.5s, copied to the workdir root as motion-tracker-vent-hatch.png); the pipeline's scene-change pass missed the moment, its nearest survivors (candidates/v1_0009.png at 61.31s and v1_0010.png at 61.51s) catch the same hatch seconds earlier, before the tracker is raised.

Screen inventory

  • lower-left foreground, the motion tracker is the entire interface: a boxy handheld unit held up in first person, its green CRT filling the device's face, a wedge-shaped sweep sector outlined in neon green, apex at bottom centre, opening upward toward whatever the player is facing, with dashed range arcs and radial spokes ruled across it
  • the sweep is empty, no contact blip anywhere in the wedge, and that absence is the readout: the geometry alone tells the player the space ahead is clear, which is the game's whole information contract in one screen
  • right side of the glass, three stacked mode labels in green block capitals: ATT / SUS / DEC; left edge, two green segmented blocks numbered 1 and 2; red LED tick columns run down both sides of the screen and small red legends are printed along the glass's bottom edge
  • the bezel carries the fiction's hardware branding: a maker's name embossed across the top (ending …ARIOUS) and 'PROPERTY OF ARIOUS - MADE IN THE U.S.A' stencilled along the bottom edge, the tracker is presented as a manufactured object first and a display second
  • no HUD layer exists anywhere else in the frame: no crosshair, no health bar, no objective text, beyond the device the frame is simply the world, looking down into an open floor vent with kit bags stowed in the compartment below

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-21. verified 2026-10-21: manual extraction (probes/v1-probe-62.5.png, 62.5s) inspected visually at full resolution (1920x1080 native, letterboxed picture area) and confirmed as a genuine, settled, fully legible first-person gameplay frame, the tracker's green wedge, dashed range arcs, ATT / SUS / DEC labels, numbered side blocks and red bezel ticks are all sharp with no blur or ghosting, the device sits in active use over the vent hatch, and no trailer typography or transition effect overlays the frame; no HUD element other than the tracker device is present anywhere in the frame
