What to study
The other half of the bounty-hunting loop is inspection, not conversation: pointing the magnifier at a handprint produces a first-person narration bubble with no portrait, no choices, and no window chrome, just the player character thinking aloud over the scene. It is the same bubble shape as NPC dialogue but a different instrument: dialogue advances a character, inspection advances the investigation. Note the trailer burn-in at the bottom of the frame: 'FOLLOW THE TRAIL / FIND CLUES AND TRACK DOWN YOUR TARGETS' is trailer caption text, not game UI. Frame at about 0:44 in the Starbound 1.4 Bounty Hunter Update trailer (Steam).

Source details
Fetched 2026-11-03. verified 2026-11-02: audited filmstrip frame from the official Steam trailer, copied verbatim into candidates/ (sha256-verified identical) and inspected visually at full resolution; full narration line, magnifier cursor, and handprint clue confirmed legible; direct re-extractions at 0:44-0:45 differed by camera drift and magnifier animation, so the audited frame itself is the keeper; trailer caption burn-in confirmed at the bottom edge
