What to study

Research in Dyson Sphere Program is manufacturing by another name, and the tech card says so in its layout. The Energy shield Lv3 card prices the upgrade three ways at once: the coloured matrix cubes it consumes (200 blue, 200 red, 200 yellow, science you built in a factory, not points you earned), the data volume it needs (144k Hashes) and the single Activate button that commits both. What you get is stated with the same plainness: shield radius +0.5m, capacity +200 MJ, no flavour adjectives. The card never floats free of the tree, either, the green Lv2 node behind it and the grey Lv4 node ahead of it stay on screen, joined by the orange line, so one technology reads as a road with a past and a future instead of a shop item. Frame at 0:38.5 in the Rise of the Darkfog Trailer (Steam). The source frame carries the trailer's cropped '- WIP - Does not represent the final -' caption at bottom-right, disclosed here and in the elements list.

  • the centre card is one technology, fully priced: 'Energy shield' at Lv3, its Unlocks stated as numbers, 'Mecha energy shield radius +0.5m' and 'Mecha energy shield capacity +200 MJ'
  • 'Research consumption' shows the three matrix cubes the research eats, blue, red and yellow, 200 of each, the game's science-as-manufactured-goods economy drawn as icons with counts, not an abstract science point
  • 'Data Volume: 144k Hashes' beside a single blue 'Activate' button; the footer explains in one sentence: 'Increases the radius and energy capacity of energy shield.'
  • the card hangs on a visible chain: the completed green node 'Energy shield Lv2' (icon II) feeds it by an orange line from the left, and the grey, unlit 'Energy shield Lv4' node (icon IV) waits to the right, past, present and future of one stat on one line
  • a second row of three completed green nodes runs across the top of the frame, and at the right edge a cropped upgrade summary lists the mecha's other tracks in plain words, 'Mecha fuel', 'Mecha driv…', 'Construction', 'Auto-recon…', 'Mecha shie…', 'Max mecha…', the tree's table of contents, cut off by the trailer's camera
