What to study

Foretell is Expedition 33's most card-game-like system, and the UI commits to the metaphor: Sun and Moon charges are literal cards, fanned on an ink splash, their counts printed on the faces, the Twilight payoff explained in two sentences of card text. Around that panel the frame layers the game's other economies without collision, AP floaters narrating the exchange at upper right, the Gradient Charges tally in script at bottom centre, and a diamond A-button prompt dead centre where a skill's timed input lands. The background is all motion blur; every piece of UI stays crisp, dark and gold. It is a character mechanic, a tutorial and a timing minigame sharing one composition. Frame at about 1:43 in the Pre-order Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v1_0031).

Screen inventory

  • Sciel's Foretell system is drawn as two playing cards pinned to an ink splash at right: a gold Sun card at 0 charges and a blue Moon card at 3, tilted over each other like a hand being played, headed FORETELL / MOON with the rules in two lines of prose, 'Create Sun and Moon charges by casting Skills. Enter Twilight by combining Sun and Moon charges.'
  • the economy reports itself in floaters at upper right, '+1 AP per Foretell applied.' and '+1 AP per Foretell consumed.', small serif captions that teach the loop while it runs, no tutorial screen required
  • dead centre, the action layer: a black-and-gold diamond timing prompt with the A button glyph, hanging over the motion-blurred battlefield, the turn-based order pauses on a single timed input, and the prompt is jewellery, not a progress bar
  • the shared resources stay on stage: Gradient Charges 0/3 in gold script at bottom centre, and the party medallions at lower right (Esquie 1611/2398, Sciel 1706/2543, Maelle 1191/1627 Stanceless) with HP bars and AP pips, all on the same ink-splash treatment as the Foretell cards
