What to study
Conversation in Sennaar is a stack of unreadable bubbles, and this frame catches the moment the stack becomes legible. Two figures talk in a courtyard, their speech drawn as three white bubbles of pure glyphs, and above them a fourth bubble in black carries the translation: 'WE CAN'T GO UP.' The colour inversion is the grammar of understanding in this game. White bubbles are what was said, in a script the player may or may not know; the black bubble is what the player now knows it means, and it only appears for speech whose glyphs have been validated in the journal. Early in the game this courtyard would show four white bubbles and no black one, and the player would walk away having understood nothing except that someone was refused the stairs. Nothing else competes for attention: no nameplates, no portraits, no dialogue wheel, no prompt. The camera stays at its usual isometric distance, the speakers stay tiny, and all the narrative weight sits in whether a black bubble shows up. It is subtitling redesigned as a progress meter, fluency you can watch arriving one sentence at a time. Frame at about 0:27 in the Chants of Sennaar - Release Date Reveal Teaser (Steam), pipeline candidate candidates/v1_0009.png at 26.95s. No trailer burn-in or watermark is present in the frame; the teaser's EXPLORE / DECODE / LEARN / CONNECT title cards appear at other timestamps and are trailer typography, not game UI.

Screen inventory
- a black speech bubble at top reading 'WE CAN'T GO UP.' in white capital letters, the game's own translation of the exchange
- three white speech bubbles stacked beneath it, each holding a short line of black glyphs, the middle line shorter than the other two
- two small figures standing in conversation on the courtyard floor far below the camera, one in teal gesturing toward the stairs, one in dark red
- the sunlit courtyard around them: wide stairs rising to the left, arched windows glowing yellow, jars, benches and a striped arch in the foreground
- no other HUD anywhere in the frame: the bubbles are the entire interface
