What to study

Wrath of the Righteous runs two games at once, a party RPG and a crusade, and this parchment is the crusade's whole board. It refuses every convention of the strategy map: no grid, no panel, no chrome in frame, just a war-table map where movement is a dashed line you can trace with a finger and armies are pieces you could pick up. The design work is in the vocabulary of marks. Nodes are gold rings, routes are dashes, the one route that matters right now goes solid and changes colour as it crosses the yellow front line, and ignorance is given a symbol of its own, the lit '?', instead of being left as blank parchment. Territory is a tint and a border, not a tooltip. The trailer stages the shot as a candlelit table map and zooms into the surface, so no HUD surrounds it; what is being studied here is the map itself, which in play is the screen the crusade is actually commanded from. Frame at about 0:59 in the Enhanced Edition Release trailer (Steam; manual extraction, the map is a single held zoom inside a cinematic trailer, so the scene-change pass never fired on it).

  • the region name is engraved in the parchment itself, 'THE LAKE LOST TO THE SUN' lettered across the purple northern wastes, geography is labelled in the map's own hand, not in a UI font laid over it
  • travel is drawn as a graph: black dashed routes link gold-ring location nodes across both territories, and the selected army's planned path is drawn solid, shifting from gold to purple as it crosses into enemy ground, the route, not just the destination, carries the state
  • a glowing '?' medallion sits on the western route where a location is still undiscovered: unknown places get their own token, so the map displays what the player does not know yet, not only what they do
  • armies and strongholds are physical pawns stood on the parchment: a green banner pawn mid-route on the solid path, a blue mounted pawn on a dashed route below it, small green tower pieces for forts, and one large glowing fortress piece anchoring the south-east
  • a single thick yellow border divides the tan crusader-held south from the purple demon-held north, the front line is one painted line, readable at a glance before any node is read
