What to study

FTL's story is a sequence of two-line gambles presented in a plain grey box. The prose is flat and factual, a destroyed cargo ship, its cargo scattered nearby, intact, and the interface offers exactly two numbered sentences back: 'Bring it aboard.' or 'Leave it alone, looks suspicious.' No odds, no outcome preview, no skill check shown; the second option's own wording, looks suspicious, is the entire hint system, the game gossiping with you about its own trap. The highlighted first choice under the cursor shows the default temptation (free cargo), and everything else on screen, the crew roster of Bryan, Mikhail and Aisha whose lives the decision spends, the JUMP button already lit READY! if you want no part of it, stays visible but dimmed, so the gamble is always weighed against the ship that has to live with it. (In the trailer's own edit, choosing to bring it aboard springs the ambush two seconds later.) Frame at about 1:00 in the FTL Faster Than Light Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 59.5s: the scene-change pass emitted no frame for this event. Caveat: the trailer's burned-in caption band ('Make life and death decisions in hundreds of events') runs across the bottom of the frame below the event box, over the dimmed weapons strip; the event text and both choices are fully legible above it.
